Nikon Eclipse 90i Microscope

The Nikon Eclipse 90i microscope is an easy-to-use, standard, upright, brightfield/fluorescent research microscope. This microscope is equipped with the high definition Nikon DS-Fi1 colour camera head, and is ideal for brightfield and/or epi-fluorescent images with the following objective lenses; a 10x dry, 40x dry and a 100x oil immersion. There are filters cubes allowing for detection with epi-fluorescence in the following wavelengths; DAPI, FITC, SpOrange, Texas Red and Cy5. It uses the high-performance imaging software NIS-Elements which offers a variety of image processing and analysis functions. In addition, iControl software allows for intuitive operation of the Nikon 90i microscope.

The Cell Culture Facility is the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences most widely used core facility. The Cell Culture Facility will train users in cell culture techniques and provides a sterile environment for cell culture work and experiments. Major equipment includes a biosafety cabinet, a brightfield microscope, a centrifuge, a CO2 incubator, a 4°C refrigerator, a -20°C freezer and a -80°C freezer. Limited liquid nitrogen storage can be arranged upon request.

The Model 1575 Immunowash™ microplate washer offers up to 75 programmable protocols that can be saved and easily modified. Each protocol is a combination of seven adjustable procedures (washing, aspiration, dispensing, bottom washing, bottom aspiration, shaking, and soaking) and multiple cycles. Programmable horizontal and vertical needle positions enable crosswise aspiration and overflow washing. The washer is compatible with 96-well microplates that have flat-, U-, or V-bottom wells, and is also compatible with strips. The microplate washer is essential for performing accurate and reproducible immunoassays in a microplate format, such as ELISA.

The Epoch 2 microplate spectrophotometer combines touchscreen technology with excellent performance for UV-Vis measurements in 6- to 384-well microplates, cuvettes and in micro-volume samples. The reader comes with full function Gen5 software for data analysis. For maximum versatility, Epoch 2 reads from 200 nm to 999 nm in 1 nm increments for single, dual and multi-wavelength measurements in endpoint and kinetic read methods. Spectral scanning and well area scanning add to the system's wide-ranging applications. A variety of data output options are available, including WiFi, Bluetooth and a USB flash drive, making Epoch 2 a fully contained microplate spectrophotometer workstation.

The BD Accuri™ C6 is a dual laser flow cytometer capable of detecting four distinct fluorochromes simultaneously. Along with traditional forward and side scatter, the C6 is an ideal instrument for basic analytical cytometry. The C6 is optimized to run samples using any of the following fluorochromes: FITC, PE, PECy5.5 (or PE Cy7) and APC. Users can run single stained samples of combinations of these fluorochromes with minimal spectral overlap. Fluorescent proteins excited by the 488nm laser can also be analyzed on the C6. Results can be analysed using the intuitive BD Accuri™ C6 software.
